Victorian Mourning Plates?

There are two American pressed glass patterns that commemorate deaths.. the Lincoln drape and the Garfield drape. Mostly colorless or milk glass.I don't know exactly how they were used. It seems odd to order a full set just to commemorate a president's assassination... unless you were a staunch politician, perhaps.

 

That’s a term I haven’t heard for a while. My mother uses it (usually with a sniff and a twitch of her nose!) but I suspect it’s dying out as I don’t think I’ve heard anyone else use it in years.
