Vintage brutalist pendant and chain (Grosse)

Hi everyone, looking for thoughts on this pendant and chain I just acquired… I know it won’t be to everyone’s taste . The pendant is stamped Grosse 1970 and silver, and measures about 5.5 x 3.5cm. Has London import marks which makes sense since I’m in the UK. The chain must have been added at some later point (I think the date letter is R, so 1991?).

Big, garish and ready for war- it's perfect for today's world ! With all those stamps it's probably valuable (925)-good pick.
Where/how did you find it ?

 

@bosko69 Yes, it would be like putting armour on! I hesitate to say it was a charity shop find… £1.49! Didn’t realise what it was till I got home.

 

Great find! According to the internet, Grosse sold at Harrod's in the 1970s. Original chain might have been much shorter; current chain's design doesn't suit it very well.

Very nice pendant. Grosse is a top German brand, usually of costume jewellery. They also did jewellery for some of the big French fashion houses.

 

@Debora I imagine it might have been on a plain collar style choker? Something that didn’t distract from the pendant.

 

Late 60s- early 70s is also the time of long chunky chains.

 

@Any Jewelry Thanks, when I googled I could only find their (gold plated) Dior pieces? So wasn’t sure how this fits in. I’m on a learning curve.

 

Not really consistent with the Brutalist style of the pendant.
The current chain looks good to me. I don't know how long it is, but here is a Scandi Brutalist pendant with a 51cm/20" chain.

The chain is not original, but it works with the pendant.

Yes, that is what they are known for, but they also did other 'stuff', like your pendant for instance.

 

I think the chain works fine....... for the weight of the pendant !!!!!!

The chain is about 26”, so a bit longer than the one in the link. I actually like the length, it’s about right for me.

 

That is good for the period and style. Chunky pendants were worn lower than dainty ones.
