Komokwa, it's just his (or hers, wink, wink Gila), left eyebrow. Looks like he is missing part of it. So, I wonder if that was that how he really looked?

Fig, I did more reading on the sites you so graciously posted, and that is very interesting information. I wonder if this could be a crayon portrait? How could I tell?

That's why I don't think it's a photo covered with chalk, crayon (not) or colored dust??? Where is the rest of his left eye? (the one on our right.)

Yah, HE, not she. Maybe LGBT, which was my first impression.

His hat is 1930's, 40's. but guy's ties go from narrow to wide and back again. what else could they do?

The lapels could be 40's, but maybe even 60, 70.

He is, also IMO, bi-racial.

Overall an interesting pic. I probably would have brought home if a few bucks.
Though I too would prefer the 4th one.

I don't think it's easy to tell. If this one is, and I'm not sure that it is... it would appear to be heavily colored over.

Have you taken it out of the frame? Sometimes the crayon portraits are not colored over all the way to the edge of the image. But sometimes they are. That is one way to tell, if you can see the edges of a photo underneath. Otherwise, I really don't know of a way that would not cause damage.

More than the eyebrow. Probably does not have prominent eyelashes, but does need a bit more "white" between the pupil and the corner of his eye.
Mouth shows no mood other than unhappiness, but eyes show hesitant, questioning, uncomfortable impatience and maybe flat out fear.
