Was this rooster once a lamp and was it something before that?

    He is almost 20", non-magnetic metal and heavy I was not sure what he was and saw the hole in the top when I got him home It makes me think lamp but the bottom does not Was he something else first? Any idea on age, origin or materials? Curious about this guy!
