I thought this would be straightforwards to ID but I suspect it’s a bespoke order? This pattern doesn’t seem to appear on the internet. Similar but not the same. It’s a high quality and beautiful plate. The colour is as the bottom photo but it wouldn’t fit in my light box.
The crest at the top belongs to the Richardson Family in Scotland. I am failing to find out much more about them.
Is there any way of dating this plate?
Those are 12 inch tiles it is on so it’s a big plate.
It’s similar to but not the same as Renaissance, Hibiscus and Sapphire.
    What do you think?
    Thanks for any help :)

That variant of the Portland Vase mark is 1900 and later. It might be a hotel or similar.

Thanks OBB, good thought, I will follow up the hotel angle.

I don't know, but the gold mark/motif could also possibly be Masonic? The Latin translates to: "The power of the acquired usage"

I'm getting a translation of Virtute acquiritur honos as "Honor is acquired by virtue."

Thanks Debora, that’s the translation I just got too. I’ve googled Masonic links and hotels but can’t find anything. Obviously going to stay a mystery!.

It would be the rare organization that ordered customized Wedgwood plates for commercial use. I would think an estate (with the British meaning) sale more likely.

Yes, I can see these plates in an upper class house. Randomly, having looked through the British peerage book, I know someone who is linked to the Scottish Richardson family so I may ask her.
Presumably being bespoke it actually devalues it as it’s not going to make up someone’s set!

You'd be surprised: a fair few hotels and restaurants here did this. Wedgwood had sound commercial brains and it wasn't that expensive to add a gild transfer.

Good point. I haven’t been able to pin down the design name yet.

Don't know if this will help but from Fairbairn's Crests these are the entries for Richardson. Some match your crest and some don't. (Probably won't help.)

Wow, that’s a great resource. Thankyou SIS. :)
I think the one shown above with the arm and the unicorn seem to be the ones linked to this family.
I wonder if it’s worth emailing Wedgwood to ask the pattern. They may be if not help but ive been surprised before.

There are plates and I'm really bad at using this book. When you have a name it gives information. The plates aren't exactly what is mentioned sometimes.

So you can see what they are talking about, I'm attaching the plates mentioned for all the Richardsons and also one they they say is Macalester. To me that one looks the most like your plate however the motto they show is wrong. Just thought I'd throw it in too. They continue on the next post as I can't load them all in one.

I've got Fairbairn's too; crests are an inexact science with lots of misappropriation and motto interchangeability. Fun book though!

Thanks @say_it_slowly for all your efforts. You have gone above and beyond to help
Interesting that the Macalester name has popped up. I will follow that up.
@blooey it does look a bit random but I will have to track down a copy.
