This was an estate find (my mother's), and I have NO idea what to do with it. Are there ways to figure out who might have painted it other than a professional appraisal? Does anyone here have any thoughts based on what you see?

    Thank you in advance! IMG_0305.jpg

Well the board was sold in Boston, and from the looks of the label ...maybe late 19th century? so I would start looking in that place and time, But honestly I don't think the quality of the painting merits a professional appraisal or tons and tons of research. Just my opinion.

Unfortunately, according to this, 5/6 of their trade was wholesale so your painter could have purchased it anywhere from "New England, the Middle and Western States, and Canada.."

Agree re quality. If unsigned, there really would be no way to identify the artist.

Thank you both! Especially re: the quality, as I really have no idea.

Whenever I see these old paintings that has what could be called a flat style, I think maybe it needs a cleaning and the depth will come out.
