WHAT COUNTRY ARE CARVED BOOK ENDS FROM? ARTIST'S NAME?

    I found these at a local thrift store today - any idea where they are from? (I am thinking African or Caribbean maybe because of the scarf - but I honestly don't know & the signature is no help)
    Also can anyone make out the name signed on the bottom?
