What is it called?

I think you all are being confused by the picture. I see a standard swinging door with the concealed type pin hinge broken at the upper left. There is corresponding damage to the door in that area as well. You can see the corresponding lower left hinge in the first pic. Consequently, this is not a drop down door as the photo suggests.

Everything about this suggests a 70s-80s cabinet for unknown purpose. The fact that the door is a single made to look double is particularly telling, as is the concealed drawer. Size might help determine what it is.

I took a real good look at it. You are sooo! right. And all along I thought the lower right hand corner was broken. That's where it latches to keep it shut. Of course you knew that!

( Counting the leg)
24 1/4 Wide

Well the file was to large, straight in to get the very underneath top of this cabinet.
This pic shows the wood that holds the drawer, and the inside of the cabinet.

 

It could just be a "night stand"

Drawer bottom confirms that this is pretty modern. At 27" tall, this could serve a myriad of purposes with none screaming out. Could even envision this as a server of some sorts.
