I found these - actually my girlfriend did while trying to make room! in our house - in a plastic tub full of stuff I'd forgotten about!

It is 2 silver? Metal? disc's that screw together and came in a velvet box (see last photo where bottom is a deep purple compared to top - it must have sat for awhile?

Can anyone tell me what it is/what it's for?
    Is it silver?

    Thank you!

They look a bit like the brighton bun candlesticks, so some type of portable candle holders?

The box is Indian. I think candle holders is a good guess.

They look like portable tealight holders. Maybe traveling Shabbos candleholders? They're for tealights, but I've seen similarly boxed Judaica, and you wouldn't want tapers in a suitcase or a hotel room.

I thought candle holders also. But would the presence of a box necessarily mean portable? Maybe it's just a presentation box. @Marote 's guess/suggestion seems to be spot on. Have you tried polishing them? Sometimes the smell when polishing gives a clue to the metal.

They're packaged that way for gift giving. I've found many a piece of Indian silverplate sold in such a box.
