WHAT IS THIS BRASS POT WITH LEAVES, VINES & FLOWER BUDS

    I found this rather large (9.5" W x 5" H) brass pot at a thrift store today. I am thinking a cigar ashtray because of the flattened leaves? (to rest cigar on).
    The design is cool; I like how they made the vines/flower stems into the bowl's feet!
    Is it old or a made in India knock off?
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Chinese, you usually see these in porcelain ..oh and lotus pot, usually for plants, so I guess you could call it a jardiniere
