I know I posted this question a long time ago and got different answers. The blue part spins, but can't be removed so you can't use it to wind something onto it. My memory is gone, but I thought someone actually knew what it was. It's 8" high and the screw head sticking out is 1".

I think chipperdoug is onto something. A newer model:

Genius. I kept using "roller" and "winder" as key words. I used to have to stand there and hold the cord when my mother ironed. Should've had one of these!

I had one of those. Mine was a bit more clever: it was a sort of springy thing, so moved back and forth as you ironed.

I have to say, the people who buy things on Ebay surprise me. I started this at 3.99 and now there's a bidding war between three people and it's up to $8. And, yet, there are items I'd have thought would sell right away or for more end up not selling. I guess I'm out of touch in some way.

Wow, this is genius. I don't iron too much, but when I do, that cord can be unruly!

Still, the new ones can be bought fairly cheaply. Maybe old is better.

You are right..yours will last--metal so much better than plastic !! . They don't make anything like they used to. :D;)

It sold for more than I expected. I think the aqua color as opposed to the new plain ones is part of the appeal.
