    Hi guys!!

Is everyone safe still? I thought this guy was wood but he feels weird and the fissure on the back by his feet tells another story. What could he be? I am really wanting to know what the thing in his hands is. I know I've seen it somewhere before and possibly in brass but I just can't put my finger on it It would really help me identify the maker on this Any help is very much appreciated!!

We finally got some TP today,I feel a little sense of relief but I am not quite sure why. lol

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. Mine was a little boring other than the very the GW boutique had everything marked 50% off Woo hoo!

That was my first thought too, but doubted my judgment because he is not wearing nautical attire. How interesting that this was/is a folk art them. Stargazer? Cartographer? Or did ship captains wear top hats?

I've had quite a few Syroco pieces and they used to sell. This one has the advantage of a maritime interest and it's in great condition.

And going by info at web site, OP's uncertainty about the material suggests this is one of their earlier wood pulp pieces.

The problem with being too knowledgeable is sometimes knowing the right name for something doesn't help when Internet searching & no one else knows it. A search for 'figurine man octant' yielded only this much higher end item:
