I bought this from a neighbor who I think called it a bachelors chest, but looking at pictures of other bachelors chests, I'm not sure.

    I *think* it's English, eastlake.
The front two pieces pop off instead of being drawers, the back top piece does the same.
The shelf in the bottom will move back and forth, but does not come out.

    It's small, measures 21.5" high x 13" deep x 25.5" wide.

    What was it's purpose?
I'm going to try and keep it, but any idea on value since it's such a unique piece?

I agree! I just need to figure out how to elevate it so it looks natural and what to use it for..

Really like this Eastlake ca. 1890-ish walnut dresser. Looks like a dresser/cupboard combo; never seen another one quite like it. Love those oak leaf and acorn pulls too!!
Not sure about value, but I’d cheerfully pay $300 at auction here in my part of the US Midwest. In bygone days much more!
Glad you’re keeping this very atmospheric beauty!

Can't say I have ever seen anything quite like it. Wonder if it is some kind of dining room piece and/or linen press. Panels come off for ease of access. I wouldn't necessarily call this Eastlake. Styling is older but think 20th century since it seems to use plywood in the back.

No idea as to use, although I can see it being used in a dining room, for linen storage etc. I love the acorn/leaf pulls. I’ve never seen anything like them. Beautiful piece!
