    What looks like a pin for a brooch is where brides could pin on their veils, mantillas, satin ribbons or lace. The little rings where there to attach the edges the of material to with a couple of whips of thread to make the lace, mantilla, or whatever lay flat on the back of the heads. Also, some brides were given extra chains of pearls, diamonds, etc. that they attached to those rings as more ornamentation showing the wealth of the bride or her family--even as a gift of the groom or his family. I have some Minorcan and Spanish family background that lived in Ybor City and that is where I have seen this. Mantillas were highly treasured as they were often handmade in past generations where women knew how to make that beautiful lace and then worn by several brides or given to brides as gifts.

    Thanks much everyone. Didn't expect that much info :) Funny part is that my wife is from the Philippines and she had zero clue what this item was...

    My mantilla, I passed down to my daughter-in-law who treasures it. Thanks for the nice comments from each of you, By the way, at 80 yo I regret not keeping some of my old jewelry from childhood days that was my play dress-up jewelry!:jawdrop::(:jawdrop::eek::eek:

    If we had only known at that age what we know now. But at least you had great fun and drifted off into a wonderful world of fantasy, the way a child should.:)
