Hey guys! I need a little help im new guy here so i have no idea if im even in right forum. My father's uncle worked at Baikonur in 1950's (Modern day Kazahstan) and when he came back home he used to bring all kinds of stuff with him, so my question is what is it? It is really intresting to me! Faces looks like carved out of bone and rest of it is some kind of metal and wood. p.s. English is not my native language sorry for all the grammar mistakes https://imgur.com/a/rRlnrSn
Hello and welcome, this may help with uploading pictures. https://www.antiquers.com/threads/making-a-post-and-uploading-pictures.16038/ The "bone" is probably Mother of Pearl, a closer picture will confirm or refute this.
Welcome bird5. Your English is fine, many of us are not native speakers either, so mistakes abound. The space program, by any chance? If so, you might enjoy this thread: https://www.antiquers.com/threads/military-poster-done-in-a-sheet-of-brass-anyone.31305/#post-415062 Your lovely placque is Chinese lacquer, and was probably new when your great-uncle got it.
Very cool thank you for all the info, and yea i think he was doing something with space program i have to ask my father about it. Do you know where i can find about this theme in this painting/carving and the shape must have a meaning too or am i wrong?
