what is this? My Mother acquired from an estate sale. There are no markings on it.

 

Can you please indicate the size? And a shot of the back would help people, too.

My first thought was maybe some sort of recipe or recipe book holder, but I'm also not so sure about that!!!!

 

I don't understand the purpose of the cords/strings at all. Why the holes?

Someone just told me they think it may be used for holding embroidery material. hmmmmm?

 

I doubt there is any "embroidery function" with this item, both from the perspective of construction and decoration.
