What the heck is this?

    I think it's cast iron but I could be wrong. It's quite heavy.
    My only guess is some sort of fancy book holder?

    Have you tried a magnet to see if it is indeed iron?

    Difficult to tell from the single photo and no dimensions. Is it bigger than a breadbox? Possibly brass.

    It's 15 3/4 inch when you hold it straight up. To function that back leg swings out to hold it up and it's less than that.
    I'd love to post more photos but I'm having trouble accessing the resized photos after I resize them.
