Hello, what would this container been used for, cigars maybe? Is it brass? Has anyone seen a mark like that, I know there isn't much there. Thanks!

Definitely a humidor, the top is where you put a sponge. That hammered exterior is interesting,Im thinking more arts and crafts than victorian.Measurements are always welcome.

Thank you for your answer, I was wondering why the lid looked like that. Any guess on the decade that it's from? Without the lid it's 6.5" by 4".

What do you see in the mark that tells you that and what is the meaning of the chief on top? Thank you!

The mark is the roadkill eagle used in the Tula region of Russia

Likely imported by Gustav Stickley or competitor of the time

Early 20th century saw Americans buying a lot of native effigy stuff

Around the world an 'Indian' was a symbol of tobacco. Tobacconists often had a full size statue outside their shop, or just the head above the door.

I’m guessing it fit into some larger item; the base is rounded, not typical of something made to be free-standing. But I’m not very familiar with Russian items made in that era.

It was definitely part of a set. There was probably some sort of tray with an ash tray as well. I doubt it was free-standing. (love the roadkill eagle term, btw)
