Whatnot? Etagere? Plant Stand?

I have had this 'plant stand' or whatnot for close to 20 years now. The simulated bamboo is magnetic - likely wrought iron and the tops are wood - all various shapes/sizes. I have not seen another like it. Thoughts?

 

JMHO, plant stand from the 1960s-70s. Where did you get it?

 

Hi Marie, I honestly don't remember. I used it as a plant stand for years then moved and into the garage it went. Forgot I had it.

I've never seen anything like it.
Wonder if it could have been a store display for florists, or other retailer.

Should ask how sturdy is it? Would it hold up to foot traffic, or is it wobbly?

 

Looks to me like a circa 1970s faux bamboo plant stand, they were usually brass-plated steel tubing - looks like someone replaced the plant supports, which often had glass inserts, with wooden and/or mdf plaques and slapped some white paint on it...

the stands are definitely wood (not particle board) in a faded blue paint. I will try to get shots under the shelves this afternoon

I wonder if this isn't one of the rare bentwood plantstands that survived.

 

Looks like someone's project from the 60s; thus the unconventional appearance. Definitely a plant stand. The age of etageres was over by then, although I suppose you could use it that way.
