When did etched marks on glass come about?

When did glass items first start to have etched marks that say the name of a manufacturer, Baccarat for example, or a country of manufacture, such as Czheckoslovakia?

I know Loetz marked theirs (manufacturers mark) in the late 1890's

 

I have a Loetz vase from 1909 and it is not marked!

I think you would have to check the history of each company you are interested in to find out when they started marking glass. I don't think you will find a date that will apply to all the companies.

 

I was just reading about Loetz glass and gathered that it is uncommon for the early pieces to be marked. If I remember correctly...

Czeckhoslovakian glass from 1918-1938 however had etched marks sometimes, according to the article.

 

Not all Loetz is marked.

You asked when Glass folks started to Etch. Loetz Started to Etch in the late 1890's. Did they do it with frequency? I don't know, that was not the questioned posed.
