I got this a few weeks ago at the same thrift store. It is very itchy material, not sure if wool or something else. Put it against your skin and it itches, why would someone make this that itches so much ?
Does not have any labels, looks to be handmade, has that old musty smell.
Doe anyone know the era of this cape or what type of material it was made with.

    Thank You

Looks early 1960s. To be worn over a sheath dress.

Looks like a sweater not a cape.
I agree with 1960s time period.

Were these called sweater coats? Can't remember.

    Isn't it simply a 60s long cardigan?

    Capes are sleeveless.

Oh, gee. My childhood is coming back to haunt me. I believe I had the same sweater coat (yup, that's what we called them) back in the late 60s. It was very chic at the time. Not really an antique. I'd call it vintage 1960s. On this site there's a coral colored one going for $119. Usually mohair. Wool makes some people itch, but not others.

I knew a guy who was in the Navy Reserves with my husband. The blue crackerjack uniform had wool in it and he had a rash all over his body. They finally allowed him to go home and change into BDUs.

Mohair. Makes my skin crawl just to remember it. I kept trying on my older sister;s sweater (of course) and then ripping it off. Not even little sibling's adoration could make me keep it on. Ugh.
