If you like it then go for it, it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it - but should always keep in mind that a good number of sellers really don't have a clue, and that a few just outright lie. Is this offered as a 'fireplace demon', or as what it actually is, a single andiron, useful only for decorative purposes? Do they have some provenance or reference for the 'over 100 years old' dating, or did they just arbitrarily come up with that number?

Whether it's a demon, devil, satyr, imp, or whatever, from what I can see, looks like he might be hand-wrought - doubt any great age, but wouldn't be surprised if it's edging up on that 100 year mark, personally would guess maybe 1920s-30s...

Pair along somewhat similar lines: http://m.ebay.com/itm/291484103220?_mwBanner=1

    Those are nice Cheryl!
There really is no way to know the age without provenance as Cheryl states.
The only thing it's got going for that is the wear.
The 1914 Craftsman I owned never had insulation in it, til I did it, and I worked over such tools so much to keep the house hot they they didn't last long at all.
I think they are dreaming on price and unless someone has the same orphan they won't get that.

Pass on this one at that price. There are a number of these about -- in sets. If I had to I could repurpose it, but not really worth it.

Unless, of course, it's a matter of love and kismet...
