    Well, spoon racks don't trip my trigger that much plus, an american example is HIDEOUSLY expensive.
    I like the Frisian boxes though, ALWAYS on the lookout for a nice example of those and if from the Netherlands, usually very affordable. :happy:

    At least the letdown came quick! Damn oak! I like it either way but being what you thought it could have been would have been pretty dang cool... When I said it was glued and screwed I meant glued and screwed good. It really is a miracle it’s in one piece still. Or perhaps it was dark magic what kept it together. If I decide I’m not the one to do it I hope I can find someone who will give it a safe, stable home for another hundred years or so...or more. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

    Hey, what's wrong with Dutch!:punch::hilarious:

    James, stop reading now!!
    Frisian and other Dutch carving is of better quality than American Frisian/Dutch.:muted::bag: And oak is a beautiful wood.:smug:

    It ain't AMERICAN! that's what's wrong with it! and, if it ain't American, it ain't HAPPENING!:singing:
    NONSENSE! Dutch Americans were free to experiment! and they did! as did all other ethnic groups. The results sometimes produced Masterpieces far exceeding anything produced in Europe! DEAL WITH IT! :cigar:

    Another factor here is this, the value of American pieces far exceeds that of European pieces, look at that Bergen County spoon rack above, I REST MY CASE!:p

    That is true, but that is due to availability, not quality.:pompous:

    Well, maybe not Frisian but, generally speaking, Americans were FREE to experiment, not only with design but construction as well, most cabinetmakers in europe were NOT and it shows, there is a "sameness" quality to their work as it was highly regulated for this, that and other reasons.

    Let's just tell it like it is, rather than the way AJ wishes it was!

    So were the Frisians and others working in similar 'kerfsnee' carved furniture here. There were no restrictions or regulations at all, and the kerfsnee evolved with all styles and fahions. You see those pieces here all the time. The quality varies, but some are the top in their craft in the world.

    Here is an Art Nouveau coat rack, for sale without car:hilarious: :

    Art Nouveau-Deco transition, 1916. I have never seen one with Frisian lilypads (the heartshapes on the sides), or 'whiplash' designs before, again, freedom of expression:
