Got a bunch of these glasses. Different years, different pics and the same decoration for trim. Any idea what these were for or who made them?

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Hmmmmm... what's the range of dates, please? Might correspond to the reign or span of some event or such. That's where I was going to start. Or maybe somebody will just recognize these.

Edit - Is that guy on a burro? Pony? Mountains in background, and what's in his hand? Interesting hat.

The subject may be the Tailor of Count Bruehl, but I don't know the context. The stem is called "air twist".

They start at 1972 and go shortly into the 80's. One glass has a chimney sweep on it.

Seems to be a goat. Ears plus horns. It wouldn't help someone like me who has no clue, but it might be beneficial to at least describe what other designs are on them. Like, is there a rider on them all, or different animals, etc.
How many glasses do you have and are they sequential or missing a few?

They certainly appear to be annual holiday glasses, but I don't recognize them. (I'm thinking "holiday glasses" in the same vein as, say, Holmegaard's annual decanter & glass sets...)

I can't really tell the quality of the crystal from the photos, but I also wonder if these might have been a premium with some sort of liquor, or something else along those lines (a new one each year, with a holiday season purchase?)

I'll have a look around to see if I come up with anything else, but that's all I can think of for now.

If you look at the soldier glass...he is missing a leg?

I think that's supposed to be the Steadfast Tin Soldier (from the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.)

    OK, folklore or mythological characters.

So far you have the Tailor of Count Bruehl from moreotherstuff - Legend has it that the Meissen modeler J. J. Kandler created these pieces as a comeuppance for the ambitious tailor of Count Heinrich Bruhl, a favorite of Augustus III. It seems the tailor overstepped his bounds by asking the Count for an invitation to dine at his supper table. Count Bruhl was appalled that such a lowly subject would dare to suggest dining at the same table as Royalty. To put the presumptuous tailor in his place, Bruhl had Kandler design figurines to set at the table in place of the tailor and thus fulfill his request. The tailor was unceremoniously escorted out of town along with his brazen wife.

    And from SBSVC

The Steadfast Tin Soldier from the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.
On his birthday, a boy receives a set of 25 toy soldiers all cast from one old tin spoon and arrays them on a table top. One soldier stands on a single leg, as having been the last one cast there was not enough metal to make him whole. Nearby, the soldier spies a paper ballerina with a spangle on her sash. She too is standing on one leg and the soldier falls in love. That night, a goblin among the toys in the form of a Jack-in-the-box angrily warns the soldier to take his eyes off the ballerina, but the soldier ignores him. The next day, the soldier falls from a windowsill (presumably the work of the goblin) and lands in the street. Two boys find the soldier, place him in a paper boat, and set him sailing in the gutter. The boat and its passenger wash into a storm drain, where a rat demands the soldier pay a toll. Sailing on, the boat is washed into a canal, where the tin soldier is swallowed by a fish. When the fish is caught and cut open, the tin soldier finds himself once again on the table top before the ballerina. Inexplicably, the boy throws the tin soldier into the fire. A wind blows the ballerina into the fire with him; she is consumed at once but her spangle remains. The tin soldier melts into the shape of a heart.

So you have something to start with. And as you can guess, a lot more work in connecting your other characters to legends, tales, etc.

Really specific descriptions and as clear pictures as possible might match with other members who can decipher the story behind your query.

Get busy, Kraft. You asked for it. :D   ;) :wideyed:  :sorry: :singing: :joyful:

"Typical woman" I WILL NOT SAY.

Because I met one once who didn't react that way,

    More than once a day.

OG... just give me your VISA # and you won't have to be bothered with details.

Kraft, this is one of the fun-est threads in a while. I hope it keeps going until you have every one of your characters identified. At some point, threading them together will hopefully lead to a knowledge of what they have in common and who made them and why.

Gee, sorry GG. I can't find it right now. But you do have my e-mail address. You can use that to deposit money in my PayPal account. Just be sure to click on "Friends and Family" so I don't get charged a 97% fee.
