Personal antiques shopping is very tricky. You really have to know your stuff, understand what your client really wants, and recognize true quality.
You also have to be aware of the imitations and fakes in your specialties, keep researching the latest trends in fakes, and be able to recognize them.

Then there are the export permits for many antiques.
You have to know which ones need them, and go through the tedious and often pricey process of appraisal and paperwork before you can apply for an export permit.
