Here's an interesting old piece I came across. It's an antique blue trasferware platter (Victoria Ware), 17 3/8" by 13 3/8" and weighs 6 pounds 3 ounces !
I believe the holes allow the meat juices to drain into a matching platter positioned beneath this pierced upper platform.
Does that mean the two platters combined weight would've been 12 plus pounds ?!

For a Joint of Beef, perhaps...or a Suckling Pig?

Inquiring minds want to know... why would the drainage holes be around the rim instead of on the main flat surface? Would that be so some juices were retained under the meat but excess could drain away?
I'm not finding any similar platters that actually include an underplate, so maybe the piercing is actually decorative?
    Lovely platter!

I don't think they're for liquid drainage. I imagine instead freshly killed an' dressed game or fowl, still somewhat warm, being placed thereupon, the piercing promoting cooling airflow to more rapidly lower such residual heat, in an effort to reduce spoilage.
    Quite an imagination, what?

Thanks for the feedback all. I thought it might be a repop-no slice marks.
    PS-How it would drain-I can't guess ?
