Featured Tiffany Vase

Hey all:

Found a Tiffany art glass piece at auction yesterday. I think I got a pretty good deal on it, but can't find anything just like it online.

It's 10" tall by 7" wide.

As you can see, it's Favrille iridescent glass. "L.C.T." is etched (lightly) on the bottom; it's hard to see in the photo and hard to see unless you've got the vase at the correct angle, but it's definitely there .

I think it was made between the 1880s and 1930s, but you may know more.

So, a couple of questions:

When do YOU think it was made?

Does $K insurance seem right? More? Less?

Its stunning,but I dont think Ive ever seen a Tiffany glass piece with a bottom like that ? Not that Ive seen every piece ever made,mind you. Bear in mind when the Tiffany craze was at full throttle in the 70s and 80s it wasnt unheard o f for people to "sign" an art glass vase themselves. I get more of a Kralik feel,but Im often wrong.

Yes, do be cautious. As above, there's a lot of Tiffany glass out there that isn't.

Might suggest having your piece authenticated (clear pictures of the vase and the mark required), as mentioned, Tiffany Favrile was and is widely faked - personally, it looks more like Rindskopf than Tiffany to me...

Thanks to my board friends, especially Deborah, Johnny, and Dragonfly. I love the piece, but it's Rindskopf alright and not Tiffany. Even the auctioneer was fooled, as well as the previous owner, but not you!

I'm returning the piece for a full refund.

What did you pay for it? It still might be valuable?
Naturally, i know nothing about pots/glass.

 

Good on the auctioneer for accepting the return. I think there are quite a few auctioneers and antique shops around here that would be quick to say caveat emptor.

 

Most reputable houses will if Subject/Title line is wrong as in this case (guesses it was titled "Tiffany Vase") or if it's proven to be a fake.

 

The auction house I work for is very good about taking stuff back if it was misrepresented or it doesn't work & was given a guarantee.

For example if he says it is 14K or the stone is real & you take it to a jeweler just to find out it is not either. As far as guarantees he will usually guarantee appliances till Monday morning if sold Friday night. You have to at least call him to let him know you are bringing it back by then.

However with the above example he would have likely said it is "signed LCT", but he will refer to it as an art glass vase. In that case he is not likely to take it back.

OK, i get it, not Tiffany but, he obviously liked the piece? Is it old? has value? A deal can be manufactured here at a reduced rate of course!

Well, he wanted it at some point, are we saying here he bought a name? Tiffany or nothing?

 

Course, I watched a "Dave the Slave" southern jug sell for a HIDEOUS amount of money (55k) at a country auction which turned out to be a world record for that type jug. Pot people are weird!
