Recent thrift store acquisition. Tan/buff clay so maybe Ohio? 9" diameter x 1" thick. Back encrusted with adhesive and concrete. Any ideas? Image search brings up nothing. Also posted to Facebook pottery group with zero response. Any tips for cleaning the back?

Try acetone to clear the adhesive, the concrete might be trickier.
An acidic solution might break it down but it could also damage the clay.

I would try a mild grinding wheel (if you dare )

Was thinking of trying vinegar on the concrete. Chipping it off will most likely damage the tile. The center tan portion seen is where it is already damaged. Am hoping to get enough off to see any marks.

I might try warm water, dish soap and a plastic scrubby and see if enough comes off so that you can tell if there's a mark. Cool tile. What's the diameter?

No progress in getting the back cleaned. Vinegar and water does nothing. Strong solvents do nothing. The adhesive is more like a fine grain mortar rather than a modern tile adhesive. Did chip a bit more off but wasn't making much progress and took a lot of force. Too much chance for damage. Used a belt sander with coarse paper without much happening. I don't have a proper grinder. I think I am going to live with it as-is.

    It's beautiful, @verybrad
I also love to clean up my finds, but sometimes the risk is not worth taking, especially on brittle items like this.
    Luckily, the front is perfect.
