Hi all, I just got a large lot of toothpick holders and there are a couple of stray items included. One is a black amethyst glass match holder or spill vase?

There is much speculation on what it is. The original owner thought it is a rare Boston and Sandwich Glass piece. Someone working with him thought it may be British. I found a couple of listings, one expired Ruby Lane listing says it's a Victorian Mini Vase.

This listing says it's a Victorian spill vase: https://www.20thcenturyglass.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=10005

This one has me confused, they are calling it "Victorian Glass Greener Co ? Pressed Purple/ Black Sandwich / Stippled Ivy Vase", how it can be Greener and Sandwich I don't know.

This one is saying it's probably Sowerby: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/antique-sowerby-black-glass-spill-1774394466

This one says it's Boston and Sandwich: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/miniature-antique-sandwich-glass-428310808

It measures 3-1/4" tall, 2-1/8" across the opening and 1-3/4" across the foot. There are no marks.

I went through 12 PDFs I have of Sowerby catalogs dating from 1874-1931 and didn't see it. I have quite a few pieces of Victorian Sowerby and frankly, the detail of the molding doesn't look right to me. It's not sloppy but I just don't think it's fine enough for them. JMHO :)

If anyone has any ideas on this I would greatly appreciate it!

Got a UV light, Marie? It may not fluoresce, but...

No glow, all I see when I put the light into the vase is the amethyst color.

Just was trolling through the many references the seller gave me and in Heacock's Encyclopedia of Victorian Colored Pattern Glass published in 1974 he shows this piece on page 28 referencing Metz for the ID. I have a Metz book and she mentions it but does not show a photo. I will follow this info down the rabbit hole.

I would love it to be Sandwich glass since I live on Cape Cod. Plus I can stop by the Sandwich Glass Museum to ask for help :)
