Unlike the papier-mache fish on another thread of mine, I actually do think this black fetish I found is pretty elegant.

When I first picked it up, I was surprised how light it is, but I've since learned about fetishes made from jet. (I also learned you can polish jet with a sunshine cloth, which I did.)

It's unsigned, but is it likely Zuni, and, if so, perhaps by someone in the Quandelacy family? Others of theirs online have some similarities.

    Thanks for any comments.

    Just over 3" / 8 cm.

Perfectly stylized. I don't know who could have made it, but it is a real beauty.

Very nice. I agree it is probably Zuni & that the overall shape resembles some Quandelacy bears, but the presence of a bundle & the absence of a heartline point away from that family. I don't know of any carver who makes jet a specialty, except Herb Halate, who has come up before:

Alaskian or Inuit Carvings or Tourist Junk?

Doesn't quite look like Halate's bears & he gives them a single turquoise arrowhead for a bundle.

Thanks @Bronwen. I remembered from previous threads your interest in fetishes and was hoping you'd comment. Appreciate it.

And thanks to everyone else for the compliments--- this piece is a keeper for me!
