Welcome, AWTP, but why don't you want the pixies? Jewellery, pottery, glass, that's us, as you know if you've been scouting us out. Sorry your intro thread got a bit bogged down by our AI phantom. The moderators seem to have decided, Away with her!

    Hello everyone,

I’ve been interested in vintage postcards for quite a while, especially identifying places, publishers, printers and the approximate period of a card.

Recently I’ve also been working on an AI-based system for processing large collections of postcard scans. It analyses the images, tries to identify the subject and location, generates a description, and extracts information about the publisher or printing house when possible.

The system works in batches of up to 999 postcards per session, and processing a full batch currently takes around one hour.

It’s still a work in progress and, of course, old postcards can be surprisingly difficult to identify correctly, so I’m also interested in learning from experienced collectors here and comparing traditional research methods with what AI can currently do.

I’d also be very interested to know if there are other people here experimenting with similar systems for automating postcard identification, classification or cataloguing. It would be great to compare approaches and see what methods others are using.

Welcome. There are other collectors. I'm not, and am also allergic to most AI-based software. It hallucinates, and the data centers are horrible on the Environment.
