Kudos to you as a first timer poster, Brynne! Your photographs are just perfect.

I can't authenticate your handbag but it is genuine GUCCI. From the brand's mixed-up period, roughly mid 1970s to mid 1980s. The "dress for success" era.

If your intention is resale, you will want to get it authenticated by a professional resource. eBay's Fashion forum recommends those below. If your intention is to use, GUCCI, as most luxury brands do, should provide the service to refresh your bag. You can check their web site for details.

I'm so happy! Thank you so much, probably going to flip it! If I kept and enjoyed all my treasure hunt finds I could not fit through my front door. (bragging rights: $6.00 garage sale find) Yippee!

Such a deal! Sure someone will be more than happy to give it a home. Do be sure to authenticate before putting up on offer. I understand it's not terribly expensive to do so and you won't get top dollar without a certificate.

Thanks for the information Debora. I didn't realize Gucci had a tag like this one.

That was a great read but I couldn't find the purse tag with just Italy on it. They all said "Made in Italy". I will keep looking. Thanks again.

As you've found, lots of variations with the GUCCI logo. Especially during this period when, according to wikipedia.org, "The company prospered through the 1970s, but the 1980s were marked by internal family disputes that brought Gucci to the brink of disaster." If you're interested in learning more, this book is a good resource.

Brynne, if you’re selling that bag please only use authenticate4u. They’ll charge $7.50 Castira is Gucci only but they don’t do vintage. Others have said that it’s best to contact them through their facebook page as the response time is supposed to be faster than through their website. I agree that Gucci has varied fonts through the years but that font is really odd to me so do use a pro.

    Hi,
I used to love Gucci shoes. I started buying them NEW for 30 dollars. In 1978 the price went to 35 dollars. I started to scream "there is no dead cow worth 35 dollars. My last pair I bought was 42 dollars and that was in 1981. I loved those shoes so much. They fit my feet to a T and wore like crazy. The last ones I saw were on sale for 250 dollars. I have one pair left just for the memories.

Wow-I’ve been wearing Gucci for a long time too and I don’t remember $30 LOL The last pair I bought were on ebay and I thought I got a deal for a new pair of a limited collection for $600! I’m still ticked that I spent so much but I really wanted them and I hadn’t treated myself to much of anything in a while. Now I’ve got nowhere to wear them!

    Hi,
Remember back in 1970s the usual mens shoes cost about 10 bucks so 30 dollars was extreme. Liberty of London ties cost about 12 dollars, the last I have seen them for was 300 dollars. Tennis sneakers were 1.99 to 2.99. Now try and find them for under 200. In the 1970s I was making 25 thousand a year, with that I bought a new house, a new car and three vacations a year. My cable bill was 7.25 a month.

I’m probably around the same age but I don’t remember those prices. I worked at Saks in 1977 and designer shoes were already over $100 back then. My NY rent on a prewar huge 1 bedroom was $400!
