Did they have to leave town, like, really fast?

Here a some illustrations to give you some idea of how old it is based on the saw marks or pattern.

    Carter's Guide - Pier Mirrors

Yours does have some condition issues that appear to be repairable - I don't know what that means on piece like this. The mirror alone is pretty wondrous.

Beautiful piece. If you still have access to your client I would strongly encourage you to reach out to them and gather any information or story behind the mirror. Provenance and line of ownerdship can greatly increase its value. Any old previous photos in their home or before, even better.

Think American and neo-classical Victorian in style. Would think about 1860 in date. Typical of those that would be found in high-style city mansions of the time. I think there is a distinct possibility that yours is missing a base. I don't see 30K here. Rarely do such items exceed a few thousand dollars. Many sell for a few hundred since not everyone can accommodate such a piece. Here are a couple examples taken from over 200 pages of auction results.

Similar in age and style, if not execution. Base intact. Sold for $750.00

Perhaps a bit more similar in execution to your but just a tad later. Again, with base included. Sold for $200.00

Here is the link to the 200+ pages of results. I only waded in a few pages to find these examples. You may find something even more similar to yours. To see values, you must register but it is free to do so. Prices are generally pretty low. I would expect to see values perhaps 3 times or more in a retail setting. Still would not approach your 30K target.

Yeah, I am goin with Brad on this one. It's size actually hurts it's value in my view, not many are in the market these days for a 10 foot tall mirror.
Those saw marks on the back look more like a modern band saw than a water powered "sash saw" that were popular in the 17th century.

With all do respect, the value is coming from somewhere maybe it’s due to the artist or the history of this pictular piece. I respect your opinion but I do believe more research is nessasary to get a more accurate value.

If it was made by a known or famous maker that would/could make a difference, is it? Is it signed or marked by a maker?
