How on earth can these older smooth pieces be turned into crusty rough looking silver and keep the maker's mark, that is a mystery to me

the links look like they're from a silver watch chain...where each link is stamped...

u sure they're hollow?

 

Maybe when you have it in your hands,there is something strange in the 8th photo that doesn't look cast.

It is a "monster",a Frankenstein monster made from recycled parts of other objects.

 

I missed Cheryl's thoughts on it being old remade. I think she's spot on. Someone has taken some old scrap, which was once watch cases, chains or whatever, and reused it, which is why the assay mark has been defaced. Hence the new clasp.

This piece shows watch case marks of the Ellington Watch Co. (C.H.E), registered at other assay offices, but this appears to be Birmingham - looks to have some worn engraving as well...

It is an interesting upcycling, I'm still wondering how it was made... Maybe a compression of different pieces, then fired to melt the front?

 

Following this thread is what watching a detective procedural would be like -- if they were better.

 

The metal edges were melted to "blobs", the whole pieces were repeated heatings like the process of reticulation for the surface texture.

 

Love brutalist anything... NICE find!!!
