Am I smelling my hand or the silver? What's it similar to?

I’d think plated brass handle. Is the handle solid or hollow? A silver handle would be hollow or filled most likely, rather than solid cast. It looks solid metal. Weight will be basically irrelevant since you’re also weighing the lens. Antique magnifying glasses sell quite well typically. Good collecting area. Idk if this is antique though. Nice either way.

Sorry can't smell anything apart from my own nostrils :bucktooth:

Thank you all so much for your responses. I have checked, and there are no inscriptions on the top part of the handle, as you asked. I’ll send you a close-up photo in a little while.

I tried both smelling and fogging it up with my breath (I found both suggestions very interesting). However, I wasn’t able to reach any conclusive results—I’m terrible at identifying smells, and I couldn’t properly assess the fogging test since I’m not familiar with how fast it should disappear. But I can say that it didn’t strike me as particularly quick to vanish (I just didn’t notice anything unusual, and maybe that’s a bad sign.).

I’m from Spain. I’ve listed it for sale on Todocolección without knowing what a “fair” price would be.

As you can see, that area is completely smooth (it’s physically noticeable without a doubt, but reflections can be very misleading in a photo).
How should I proceed to put it up for sale through this forum, considering that I’m not sure what its fair price range should be? Thank you very much!

Looks like bubbling and flaking of plating directly around the rim of lens. Handle could be different material though.

Thank yoy, J Dagger. Yes... the magnifying glass clearly has defects as a result of time.

Great. Thank you very much, Komokwa.

I wasn’t pointing out the defects to point out defects. I was pointing out the defects because they help to explain the material(s) the object is constructed out of.

Thanks J Dagger. I was sure your comment had a fairly clear purpose, probably aligned with the idea of this thread. But I didn't have the knowledge to make much of it. And I had no choice but to give you a generic (albeit real) response, using it as an excuse to thank you.
