    I was reading in the Sybille Jargstorf Baubles etc book yesterday, and I came across the mention of a jewellery painter who would wipe of most the gilding after applying it. The gold would stay in the crevices, creating a nice effect.
    I now wonder if something similar was done to the Isis figure. That most of the enamel (cold painted?) was wiped off so it only showed between the wing feathers and in the folds of her dress. What do you think?
