Added on Any Jewelry’s request. An interesting documentary film on the forging of ancient bronze. Extends to fake antiquities in general. https://youtu.be/1lNSXB4i4fE

if you perhaps see another item that we sell that looks the same it's probably because of a relist from an unpaid buyer

They've made an excuse for every possible eventuality

Also please do not wash your item !

EBay is rife with rip off merchants, real business sellers with proper shops and there is no one to stop any of them, there is even accounts that copy other sellers photographs and list items as their own, will eBay stop this? No.. it’s all about numbers, less listings lowers the value of the company, I see every single day items up for auction with plenty of interest and it’s just not what the sellers advertises the item as. The problem with eBay Is people take long term sellers word for it, take a an opal triplet ring for example, opal triplet being the cheapest version of a real opal and a big jewellery seller which I won’t name because I’m not sure if I am aloud to, is selling this opal triplet ring as a black opal ring, they know it isn’t because I’ve seen them sell full opals many of times, someone who doesn’t know any better pays top money for it, while an honest seller is selling another opal triplet ring- advertised as such and no Interest because it is an opal triplet, if I reported the listing of the opal triplet sold as a black opal, nothing would be done about it.
Also all these sellers are continuing to make a fortune because if anyone returns an item not as described and they leave negative feedback, eBay will just remove it so the seller has 100% positive. The problem I find is the Person who doesn’t know any better will buy a fake from a so called trusted seller and never know the difference.

I kid you not, I bought a ring once and after so many bad purchases I started to ask sellers for extra information. I asked the seller if the diamonds in the ring she advertised as diamonds were real, she responded with yes and that she gets all her jewellery checked by a professional jeweller beforehand, the ring turned up with CZ stamped inside the band

Just in case, a lot of us here are/wore eBay dealers and the sort your're railing against is despised by all honest sellers. Selling diamonds as CZ is fine if crazy; selling CZ as diamonds is fraud if you know you're doing it.

Which is one of the reasons why I started this thread. Unfortunately we have to warn each other against these fraudsters.

While I agree with you @Glorification that there are unscrupulous sellers in any specialisation, this thread is about fake antiquities, fake items sold as Ancient Roman, Egyptian, etc. It is not about non-Ancient jewellery that has been misrepresented.

    Hi,

In the earlier times of eB**, reported sellers or auctions seem to be removed faster and more often.
The really bad thing is eB** removing bad (but probably justified) ratings or at least the comments which indicate items to be fake.
It‘s pretty hard for me to buy antiquities without being an expert. This video helped me to better detect inconsistence respectively fake patina in ancient glass:
