    :)

Having emptied a large house chock full of stuff that had belonged to people we love, I can understand that some people can't or don't want to do this themselves. But I'll never make sense of someone not going through drawers and handbags and just putting jewellery and small stuff in a box or suitcase that can be gone through months or years later.

As for leaving cash money for the house clearance people ... :inpain::inpain::inpain::arghh:

A larger than normal Victorian pine blanket box, complete with a candle tray. its been stripped to within an inch of its life.

It needs a good dark waxing and a key.

Davey rides again! Makes me want to catch and spank whoever stripped that poor defenseless pine box and sent it into the world naked. Would it have been grain-painted originally? They often were here.

I was wondering if the pine box had been 'pickled' or 'white-washed' after being stripped naked?

It may have had half a dozen coates of paint over the years.

They are dipped into a caustic soda tank, this was quite common in the 80's.

It gets rid of all the paint and original patina, however after a few months the whole thing starts to fall apart as the soda dissolves all the original glues and fixings.
Its best if they are hand stripped with a blade and a paint stripper for the difficult bits.

The best in the UK was Nitromors however the glorious EU banned the main ingredient that actually strips the paint.:arghh:

Sadly, @daveydempsey , that 'dip stripping' kinda makes it look like a brand new chest....at least from the images!!!
