OK, it doesn’t say 1/20, but what does the mark say?

And you have had the stones tested so you know they are diamonds? You never answered, inquiring minds want to know :)

Marie, they are diamonds , not sure of the karats till the appraisal comes back. The jewler said it was a very high end piece. So we shall see.

If there is bubbles that I am seeing .... it is not a very high end peice. It is a sloppy casting that should have been put into the recycle bin before and never sold to the public.

Hollyblue, the jeweler told me it is a very high end piece, and would like to do a full appraisal to test the karats. So i think i will get it appraised by him. And will definately post the results.

......... how much the appraisal would cost.....
not how much he would value the item at ...!

For insurance an item is likely valued at 2 to 3 times it's fair market value.....but the work to do an appraisal should be a set cost......

Occasionally jewelers will look at a piece and say, "yes 18K gold", "yes diamond" without charging. If the jeweler eyeballed it and said was a very high end piece, chances are it is 18K and real diamonds. I think most good jewelers can ID diamonds pretty quickly.

But agree if they are printing up an insurance estimate is going to cost something --the one time I had it done, it was $75. And if for insurance replacement, it will be 2-3 times valued as mentioned.

If this is clearly stamped 18K, unlikely any kind of fake. As far as I know, no one is making falsely stamped fake fur clips. Fur clips are not as practical these days. Guessing that value is going to be mostly in the gold and the diamonds unless attached to a good maker.

Best of luck with it Rosie!

I thought that was the real deal the minute I saw it. The top diamond in the rose and the white gold was the tip- the back of the stones are open. Done in 18k gold, I would say it is a high end piece. If you undo the pin and flip the clip up, is there anything written under the top of the clip? It really is beautiful, and roses are my birthday flower!

I'd love to know what you discover about this brooch, Rosie.

FWIW, I've spent many hours of my life looking at pictures of Van Cleef and Arpels brooches online, because I will only ever see them online and certainly can't afford to buy one!

The mechanism on their brooches is very similar to the one here on yours.

It looks like a fur clip mechanism as others here have stated.

Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that this brooch is made by Van Cleef and Arpels, but am simply intrigued by this mechanism on a piece of fine jewelry.

I agree with Marko, this looked like the "real deal" the minute I saw your pics and it made my heart beat a bit faster.
