Yes, I see it now. Thanks for pointing it out. On closer inspection there are a few cracks :(

Have you tried putting it in a plastic bag for a few hours? Celluloid can be stinky if you do that.

No. What kind of stinky? I'll give it a go.

Ok, we've got joolies hiding in dark closets, people licking pens, stinky jewellery in plastic bags:joyful: .... I know there is more, please remind me.

A sort of acrid chemical smell if that makes sense.

I'll report back. The necklace is sealed in a zip lock bag

Gorgeous necklace. It reminds me of an antique ivory one I own.

Personally, would be surprised if it's other than ivory, believe the similar necklace linked was also most likely ivory (not uncommon these days to list ivory as celluloid even they actually know it's not). I'd guess they're Japanese, might be a bit earlier, but I'd think probably not too long after WWII, 1940s-'50s...

Though again relying on a seller's word, here is one similar, not knotted but the same shape beads and floral motif, described as ivory:

Couldn't find the oval beads in their original boxes, but here are some round carved beads, though none are knotted, they do all have the same shape barrel clasp:

@Ownedbybear I can report that there was no stinky smell. I had it sealed in the bag overnight and no smell at all. So, perhaps ivory after all.

Thanks for the links @DragonflyWink. Interesting
I'm not sure of the rules for selling ivory in Australia so will need to look into it.
Thanks for taking the time to research.
