That doesn't matter, the letters indicate the town where they were assayed, so they can be different. Yours was assayed and marked in Warsaw, so either made there or in the vicinity.:)

    Thanks AJ
It's good to know not all the advertising blurb was false. I'm sending it back. They asked me not to leave negative feedback and they would refund in full. We'll see if that happens. It came from the US so will need to go through customs again. I will continue my search for amber. Thanks for all your advise and encouragement :happy::happy:

I'd say carnelian, too. Amber ought not to be cold.

    Definitely cold OBB :(
Just disappointed. It hasn't deterred me from my amber hunt though :) I guess ebay is a bit hit and miss. It's not easy buying something without holding it and inspecting it :watching:

Try Baltic sellers. There are quite a few Lithuanian and Latvian ones on Etsy who sell vintage Baltic amber jewellery.

Be sure to check if the jewellery is silver though. In Soviet times silver was very expensive, and they often used an alloy called 'Melchior', which is like nickel silver, so no silver content at all. They even used copper.
In my experience the Baltic sellers are very reliable and if they don't specifically say it is silver, it isn't.

Tracey. I have an app on my phone that is a magnifier. It has a light and takes photos. While it is definitely not a substitute for a loupe, it can be helpful in creating photos for this forum. The one I like the best is Magnifying Glass + Flashlight. There's one for iphones and androids.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

Look at on line pics of amber.....many many many pics !!
That way at least you'll have a better idea yourself....as opposed to just what a seller will say...
No it's not perfect.......but you do need to become very well versed at seeing photo's.....in this on line world !;);):)

@KSW - the veil is the sort of diffused blue glow effect that UV gives on amber. Looks a bit like a veil! ;)

    Hi Tracey,
Congratulations on your find!!! Another fun thing to do with your UV light. In the middle of the night when everything is dark take your UV light and walk through your house. You will be amazed at the amount of glassware which will begin to glow different colors.
