Thanks for your reply. I am learning that hallmark identification is not as straightforward I thought it would be.

At the end of the day I know it doesn't stand for diamonds becasue my diamond tester is giving me the big thumbs down on the stones, plus they are chipped and worn, its a scraper for sure :(

Do you have special internet or something :). What did you search for to find that may I ask? I spent an hour asking different types of relevant questions and got nothing!!

Thank you for the info, I have been researching it this morning and as always have gone off piste with my research and ended up finding out about the whole history of that address

    I`m psychic, :D
I searched "Vernon Allen Ltd, jewellers" and found a reference to it on the 925-1000 forum about old silver/jeweller advertisements.

Ah right, obvious when you say it, about the one phrase I didn't try :grumpy:

Anyway, at the end of the day VN is a retailers mark correct? So the mystery of the maker will forever remain a mystery, its still a nice brooch though and if and when I do resell it I will entitle it the The Brooch of Mystery :wacky:

Thanks for all your help on this again.
