And when it comes to recently made netsuke, there are so many nicely carved examples in boxwood and other safe materials. If you want to buy a netsuke without wanting to delve into the rather complex subject, please buy one of those.

What a good example you have here, they are very talentuous artists, but you have to pay them, contemporary japanese art is not for sale at 5 bucks, as for all artistic items of quality.
When I have a picture selected it's always a lot of work behind and to pay an artist or a worker of quality is a dignity probe for the two persons!

Here is an example of what it is possible to make legally with ivory, all is older than 80 years but was never be made to be married, to certificate that work I have to go to an authorised center and certify on honour with pictures proving what was made and the provenance of the material, but price is in same grade.
