lol, must be a British thing, my mom (War Bride) would always tell us kids to get our hands out of our pockets
Too true, I was sanctioned at an incident around 40 years ago for having my hands in my pockets, photographed by the press. I had a gun in one pocket and a cuffs and keys in the other. I won, the snowflakes lost.
These are pretty cool. The old gentleman obviously had a good time when he had the chance! Get yer lindy hop on, y'all.(LOL) I was watching Jeopardy the other night and was surprised some of the contestants didn't know Take the A Train. I'll bet the photographer did.
And I couldn't decide if that was the GW Bridge in the FAR RIGHT BACK corner which is seen when you blow up the image (hold down CTL and scroll FORWARD with a MOUSE....you'll have to re-center the image), and it did look like the Hudson, but also could have been any river.....so wisely kept my mouth shut.....a RARE OCCURRENCE!!!
None of my lot. I do have some of my grandparents' photos of the Canadians who stayed in their house along with some refugees from God knows where. It is a general European thing, just like no elbows on the table. As the father of a British friend used to say "all joints on the table are there to be cut". I never knew how to hold my cutlery without joints (wrists, fingers) showing though.
"It is a general European thing, just like no elbows on the table". That was told to us at every meal. I never hear it being said anymore................. Completely forgot the phrase until your post AJ, but it sure brought back fond memories.............
Now there are elbows on the table and fingers along with all the smart phones. No one is looking at who they are eating with or talking across the table. Sad Shooting pointless selfies about their food or texting some convo of no real importance is meal time. Ugh.
Wow Pearls! Ain't that the truth!! Still, having my daughter live so close to me, we get together often and do enjoy good conversations........but I doubt our elbows are off the table.........I'm going to be aware of that once more now. I wonder what folks will say when I remind them, No elbows on the table......... Now it's "No phones at the table"...........
Judy, you are lucky to have your daughter so close to you. I have put my elbows on the table now and then, but it wasn't comfortable. I can deal with elbows, the smart phones, not so much.
