    I agree. It looked very Dutch to me (sorry kyra), the way the scene is positioned, and especially the woman's hat, and I remembered seeing it before.
    This one could be 19th century, those Dutch paintings were copied a lot at the time.
    There were professional surgeons in the Low Countries in those days, but the patient had to be pretty desparate to go to one.
    A Low Countries surgeon, 'chirurgijn', had less medical training than a doctor. A doctor worked with herbal and other remedies, a chirurgijn set bones and did any cutting and stitching that was deemed necessary.:nailbiting:
    One of my Frisian ancestors was a chirurgijn.:bag:
