Not where I can check my button books, but the one mark I can make anything out of appears to have a star in an outline with something to the right, similar to those found on 1968+ Italian marks or 1958+ Soviet marks - Italian seems more likely to me...

Messilane....thanks for the pic....that's what came up, along with the same link!! Cheryl, I thought I saw a star and maybe an M, but wasn't sure about the M.....the mystery continues....but I LOVE all the help I'm getting!!! I'll check on those Italian and Soviet marks.....some one of you all are so often spot on!

As an aside...this site ROCKS.....some mornings what goes on here is my morning's entertainment!!!!!:p:p:p:p

I don't know if the buttons are Russian, but Googling "antique russian enamel button" sure brought up a lot of beautiful items!

Messi, thanks for the info! What a cool device, and pretty inexpensive, too. I think I may get me one. :)

Here are a couple of photos I had taken using mine.
The first is the mark inside a thimble - the second is the mark on the back of a tie tack.

Quick ques: Amazon has a Plugable 2MB 10X-250X USB magnifier for $35. or they have a Forestfish 2MB 50X-500X USB magnifier for $23.89....no shipping....have Prime! Is the 50X too high/powerful a starting power/point??? Not counting $$ as a factor.....thanks for any opinion!!!

    Mine is 20x to 230x.
After looking at both of the ones you looked at, I, personally, would prefer the 50x to 250x.
    But that's just me.

I've been looking at different usb microscopes, and watched some YouTube demos. I'm wondering if you use one that has a tall stand, can it take a photo of something larger, like a postcard, and show the entire item without distortion or out of focus areas?

Hi All!!! I'm baaaack!!! With updated close-ups of those "markings" on the button!
AND, I found a distinct mark on the loop (that the button would be sewed on with?)... a 3 with what looks like a whippet or greyhound head! My mind can get very creative on the other 3 pics, so I will just ask for input to see if anyone thinks there is anything constructive in them? I SO appreciate any and All help you've been giving!!! AND I love the 50X - 500X magnifier that just came in and I used!!!!!
Edit: The last pic to me looks like a star, a cat head and an M, but who knows?

Us "Sue"s have to stick together! ;)

The rest of the marks are gobbledygook to me. But you might want to try focusing so the nose of the dog is slightly away from you to see if there is a letter at the tip of the nose. If so, that's the city mark, shown on the table below the illustration of the dog head.

    Wow, those closeups are amazing!

The loop is called a "shank," and this type of shank is called a "loop shank."

I love this button! Very beautiful piece! Now after reading all the messages and seeing your close up photos, I'm on Amazon picking out a USB microscope. That thing is really cool! Thanks for the recommendations :)
