They used to hide swords in canes but if it won't easily open, don't force it. Perhaps it was too long for the child so they shortened it.

I've been looking at ancient languages trying to match and it's exhausting.

What is off-putting is the numbers.

    It is beautiful, Joanne.
There is indeed a Trimukha Ganapati on top. The silver top also features an embossed Thai/Cambodian/Laotian type dragon.
Looking at the type of script, it is also either from Thailand, Laos, or Cambodia. Given the western numbers (not English!!!) I would guess either Laos or Cambodia, which were both part of French Indochina (not English;)).
The number thing could be auspicious, or some type of ritual calendar?
That is all I can say, so I will tag our French Indochina friend, @kyratango , kyra, do you have any ideas?

Btw, I am Dutch, and we also use those numbers.:jawdrop::hilarious: So does the entire European and European influenced world. Most of that world has never been a British colony. It is the same with Latin script, btw.

We would have to find out who, what, where first. Let's wait for kyra. Not only does she have roots in Indochina, she has a very good general knowledge.

My first look at it I thought it was southeast asia and more specifically india. Reminded me of a horse crop but in this instance it may be a cheru kol for riding an elephant. Just a guess on my part.

HAHAHAHA How I missed all the other posts in this topic is beyond me :(

The elephant head on the silver has furry ears, but the last woolly mammoth is thought to have became extinct 4000 years ago.
