    Plumstead. Hm. I'll go fish out my London glassmakers history book, in case there's anyone obvious. It was rural there till the 19th C, but I wonder if there was anything older on that site. The "problem" is that 19th C makers copied mediaeval and Roman glass, so dating can be an issue. If you feel like messaging me a postcode I'll do a bit of research in me books.

    The idea of a piece of glass being used as an urn has merit.

    The scheme for reporting finds is the Portable Antiquities Scheme. If you contact the MoL, they'll help on that, too. It's worth doing, possibly, in case there's other interesting things. Ask your other half to get some photos of the context it was found in, if you can.

    The shape, by the way, is an upside down cinerary urn missing a lid.

    Welcome, Sparklepup1. Just love the vase but can't help with identification, sorry. The suggestions from other members seem excellent. Good luck with your quest. I the vase is something incredible. :)
