Will do. It's work in progress. Treading a tightrope as to how much glue to take out!.
Some of it is stained by the glue so I'm also going to experiment with trying to lighten it. Some websites say lemon juice so I'm going to give that a go. Others say Armageddon will happen with the use of lemon juice but I may well take the risk . Need to buy a lemon though......

 

It is the perfect candidate for experimentation, its sad condition allows it! Very exciting!!!

 

I'm still interested to know how old this brooch is if anyone is willing to take a guess?.
If it falls apart with the lemon juice at least it will smell nice!

 

I sometimes soak things in water to soften grime so it can be wiped/brushed away. I have noticed that glue often gets soft enough to scrape away or pull away with tweezers. I'm sure it doesn't work with all kinds of glue, but it does with some. Sometimes just the excess glue gets softened, and sometimes also the glue that is holding the stone in place can soften, so be cautious.

 

I'd say around 1920/1930 (see that hinge) older Canton carvings were more detailed
