Yes. If the stone is something other than diamond, the tester won't light up.
But if you have a man-made diamond(not CZ), being that the stone is the same exact properties of a diamond, and lab grown, it will also test as diamond.

Is the zigzag one the one with the solitary diamond in the middle? Or is it the one with a diamond in the middle surrounded by other small diamonds?

    Here's another Old European.
It is .53 ct., Rose gold. I had the prongs re-tipped, because they were so worn.
This one is darker, toward the end of the alphabet in color, maybe Q-R-S?
This one is also from a local pawn shop.

Yes, both pins with single diamonds are Old Mine.
The pin with the multiple stones are Old Europeans.

    Thank you,
It looks like I have a lot of inclusions, and feathers and needles, black carbon specks, and culets to look for flat and pointy! I guess I better start with some tiny bubbles...:)...cause we don't want any schmutz, right?

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

The sapphires are old...but I can't use the pin and clasp to help me ...cuz Dad had it...made into a necklace, from a brooch...by a butcher...
likely damaged it's value as well..........:(
( notice the stupid chain....stuck on both ends..)

The ring is like looking at fireworks up close... bedazzling !
I had a jeweler clean it....and he was kinda taken with the main stone..

Here is one of my snake rings, 19th century, rose and yellow gold, diamond and rubies.
I thought the diamond was a rose, but see now that it has a tiny table of sorts. No idea which cut it could be, but it is old.;) Maybe someone fiddled around with it, who cares, I like it.:D It doesn't show in these photos, but it is a little sparkler.

I think I posted these diamond cut charts before in another thread, but here they are again, the Tolkovsky is a modern brilliant, designed in 1919:

    @Any Jewelry
I love your snake ring! I was crazy for snake rings a while ago, but the authentic Victorian ones are so pricey! So I had this loose diamond, and I made my own. I do silversmithing as a hobby.

I'm very glad you posted this chart. It's so hard to describe the different cuts. A visual is always the best!

That is lovely, and a great hobby!
Yes, the Victorian snake rings are pricey, but I come across a bargain occasionally. This was one of them.:)

:cyclops:Mmm, they don't seem diamonds to me (paste/rhinestone exist in old cut shape, ant the mounting is cheap......) Only the first one in a flower could be diamond.:)
